This month, we’re spending ‘Five minutes with… Nexus Coaching – a career and life coaching service empowering people to reach their desired outcomes. We caught up with company founder, Sharon Oakley to find out how her virtual tenancy with 54 St James Street suits her business…
Tell us about your business…
I am a career and life coach helping people to achieve their professional and personal goals. I help my clients gain clarity on what they want, find momentum to make the change, build confidence and take action. In addition to coaching, I provide mentoring where I leverage my business experience to offer clients insight and guidance where they encounter challenges. I started my business in 2018, after working in financial services for over 20 years. I have done quite a bit of coaching and mentoring over the years and wanted to start a business dedicated to helping people. I’ve never looked back! I love seeing my clients realise their potential and overcome obstacles. I would like to be able to reach more women by expanding my service offering to group coaching and workshops in addition to the 1:1 coaching.
Describe your typical daily routine…
My day usually starts with a run along the Mersey and a cup of coffee to get energised! When it comes to coaching, I always prepare before meeting with each client by reviewing the action items set in the prior session. Coaching meetings vary in terms of location as I do quite a bit of coaching over video and phone and I also coach clients in person in Liverpool and London so my day may involve meeting a client at the Women’s Organisation or traveling across London.
Why did you choose 54 St. James Street?
I love what the Women’s Organisation stands for by having 54 St James Street to provide a positive environment and support for women. As a gender we need to help each other reach our full potential and a place such as 54 St James Street allows for the sharing of ideas and collaboration.
What would be your top tips for anyone looking to start a business?
Keep your business goals in mind and start the journey one step at a time. Start by taking the first tiny step. It could simply be talking with someone in an industry that interests you, writing a business plan, or taking a class. So often we talk ourselves out of following our dreams because of fear and overthinking. You don’t need to know all the answers. Trust yourself and know that you will find the answers step by step. There are always resources out there to help you along the way.
What’s on your reading or watch list at the moment?
I love to read. I listen to audio books and also have my Kindle. I am currently learning French as I am doing a few trips to France this year so I am listening to “Learn French with Paul Noble”. It has been really helpful!
I also just finished a great book by a local author near where I am from in the US, Elin Hilderbrand “What Happens in Paradise”, a great mystery that is hard to put down.
As for television, I am addicted to the series The Missing. It is a must watch!
